A Day in the Life of… Lab61

So, what does a typical day look like for an apprentice? There is no typical Lab61 student and, very importantly, there is no typical day. The educational journey leans heavily towards practical applications. Naturally, there’s also an element of theoretical education – but Lab61 strongly believe that learning is best achieved through a strategic combination of both academic and practical scenarios.

Interns become part of the workforce, playing an integral part in the everyday running of the company. This might include learning the intricacies of CNC technology – a day might start with programming and machine setup, running cycles, followed by the all-important end-of-day tasks, such as cleaning and prepping for the following shift.

One vital element of the Lab61 blueprint is student support and becoming a valuable part of the team. Collaboration is a key element of problem-solving. As apprentices become more proficient, the opportunity to work with less mentor involvement becomes possible. This gradually eases individuals into independence and is tailored to the learning journey. Even when proficient, there’s always a strategic learning curve and educational element. This is also backed up with daily team debriefs and an open-door policy that encourages increasing the knowledge base and constant access to help whenever it’s needed.
