Breeze Through Wind Turbine Inspections with Nexxis Robotics

As renewable energy continues to grow, wind farms and turbine power are becoming an increasingly efficient alternative for energy production. However, when it comes to maintenance…
inspections are anything but a breeze.
Traditional methods require workers to scale 300-foot towers or navigate confined spaces, exposing them to significant risks. These inspections are also time-consuming and costly, demanding multiple personnel and extensive preparation.
That’s why Nexxis set out to change the game, offering smarter, safer alternatives with our cutting-edge OEM Robotics.
The Problems with Traditional Inspections
Manual wind turbine inspections are labour-intensive and hazardous. Workers face risks from extreme heights, confined spaces, and unpredictable weather conditions. A single inspection can take up to six hours, not including setup time, and the need for biannual checks results in high cumulative costs.
Nexxis’ Robotic Solutions
At Nexxis, we’ve developed a range of robotic inspection tools that eliminate the need for human entry while delivering superior imaging and data analysis on wind turbines.
Snowcat
Snowcat is a remote visual inspection (RVI) system designed for confined space assessments. Fair to say, the inside of a turbine blade is no match for its high resolution, 10x optical zoom, and flexible lighting system. Capable of capturing incredibly detailed images (example shown at 40 metres).
Zenith: Vertical Tower Inspections
The Zenith platform is perfect for remote inspections of wind turbine towers. It features a 500-foot reach, 4K imaging, and automated inspection programming. With wireless operation and high-powered LED lighting, Zenith eliminates the need for dangerous rope-access inspections.
Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Laser Scanning
Nexxis also provides UT probe systems for composite material assessments, enabling non-destructive testing (NDT) of turbine structures. Laser scanning technology further enhances defect detection, identifying cracks and micro-pitting with high precision. Easily used manually or mounted to a number of Nexxis crawlers.
A Safer, Smarter Future for Wind Energy
Nexxis’ robotic solutions improve safety, reduce downtime, and lower operational costs. By removing the need for manual inspections, wind farm operators can ensure more efficient and reliable maintenance. At Nexxis, we’re leading the way forward with advanced imaging, automated scanning, and real-time data analysis.
